Welcome To Hollywood
As with the other Disney parks... you need to find out how you get to Hollywood studios. This depends on where you are traveling from. If you are staying at a Disney resort then no worries, your transport will be available from your resort area.
Will you be traveling by car? Once again this will depend on where you are traveling from using the I4, 192, Osceola parkway etc. All these roads do converge into Disney’s road system which will take you to MGM studios please see our map section. Follow the road signs which clearly mark which theme park you require.
Once you have paid your parking fees of $8 - $10 dollars (subject to change) you will enter the car parking area and be directed to your parking space…remember where you park your vehicle, a sign with Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, Tigger, Winnie the Pooh etc will be situated on each line.
Walk or take a tram ride to the entrance at MGM Studios and make sure your tickets are ready to show…bag searches will be carried out.
We recommend this helpful map regarding Hollywood Studios.
Hollywood Boulevard And The Thrill Seekers!
Once you are through the entrance at Hollywood Studios, Hollywood Boulevard greets you with Mickey’s sorcerer’s hat on view at the end of the boulevard.Don’t forget if you need to hire a locker or pushchair (stroller), you will find the strollers inside the main entrance, at ’Crossroad’s of the World’, and for lockers head towards ’Oscar’s Super Service. We have come to realise, as with many other visitors, that Hollywood Studios can be seen in one comfortable day so an 'early start' is recommended. Depending on the age of your family start where you feel happy, take your pick ‘BUT’ the for thrill seekers here’s a tip; Sunkissed tip;
Head straight to ‘The Twilight Zone – Tower of Terror’ this is the top ride in MGM and during the high season remains busy all day up to the start of the ‘Fantasmic’ show which by the way is one impressive show at night. Fastpass is available on this ride
Second to the Tower of Terror is the ‘Aerosmith Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’ ride, again a Fastpass ride and situated next to the Tower of Terror so take your pick between the two. If you are not bothered about the Fantasmic show these two rides are excellent to go on during show time. |
Now For The Young Ones
So that’s the ‘thrill seekers sorted out’, what about the rest of you especially the young ones? Well we recommend you head towards ‘Voyage of the Little Mermaid’. This is a Fastpass ride so it can get busy at peak times and is a brilliant ride to get the ‘Kids’ in the mood. Also ‘Journey into Narnia’, watch how The Lion, The Witch and The Wardroom came to life in this fantastic film
When you leave the Little Mermaid or Narnia head next door to the ‘Disney Animation’ and any budding artist will enjoy how Disney brings their characters to life.
During your time in Disney Animation check the times of two shows nearby; ‘Playhouse Disney’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and work around these, as you can normally see both shows one after the other, which will then complete your viewing of this side of the park. Both shows are 'situated on the sunset boulevard' heading towards the Tower of Terror. See map.
Around about now you might be getting hungry and the batteries may need charging up. As with all Disney parks, food is available by the bucket load with an assortment of prices to match. Therefore here’s a useful guide for you to use and budget to your requirements.
The rest of Hoolywood Studios (ex MGM) can be explored for the rest of the day at your leisure taken into consideration the ages of the children and remember the parade ‘Disney Stars and Motor cars’ which normally starts around 3.00 – 3.30pm. Here’s a great guide on all the opening times and parade times throughout Disney.
Explore The Rest of Hollywood Studios
Take a look at our favorite list of all the great rides and shows remaining to explore at Hollywood Studios throughout your visit, but remember to watch the brilliant ‘Fantasmic’ show at the end of the day, the whole family will be nothing but impressed.
- The Great Movie Ride – Sit down ride and watch your all time classic films in this old Chinese theatre. Watch out for the alien film, it might scare young children.
- Sounds Dangerous – This is a fun theatre show which stars the American comedian Drew Carey, you sit down and place on head phones, the theatre goes into blackness (not recommended for young children) and audio sounds are played into your ears separately at different times causing different illusions that lasts for 10 minutes.
- Indiana Jones – Epic stunt show which if you don’t know the story by now where have you been for the last 23 years, this is a brilliant show for all the family and very popular. Fastpass is available if needed.
- Star Wars – The force is strong with you Luke, my dear wife loves this ride more than the children do, must be the Darth Vader costume! An all time classic ride never to fade away. Fastpass is available.
- Muppet Vision 3-D – Another all time classic show with all your favourite characters, a good family show with all the tricks of 3-D set in the old Muppet theatre.
- Honey I shrunk the kids – The kids will love this fun adventure area where they can sit on giant ants and join the rest of the children on slides, swings, rope walk ways and much more (watch out for the water jets Mums and Dads!).
- The New Lights, Motors, Action – Extreme stunt show, this is the new show to Hollywood Studios. Get your camera ready because you are going to get some great photos, the children will love this and you parents, but don’t try this at home.
- The Backlot Tour – This is a long ride that takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour during busy periods but well worth it. But remember if you want to see a certain show, work your times out before you join this tour. See great special effects in the doomed canyon and genuine props used in past films.
